Thanks - December 2004 Print E-mail

Written by Janis Koch,

One of the things I like best about performance auditing is learning what other people do for a living. Interviews and ride-a-longs are so fun and interesting. I have gone on tours of sewer facilities, rode along with animal control officers, learned about garbage and recycling, and recently I’ve been doing med rounds in the jails. I have been able to do and see many things other people never get a chance to experience.

The part I don’t like as much is all the documentation and writing. It’s great when I’m on an audit team with somebody who likes the parts I don’t. Now that’s a dream audit assignment for me.

In many ways, being Editor for the past year has given me a chance to do the part of auditing I like best. I have gotten to talk and email with many of the membership I would never have interacted with otherwise. I’ve learned so much and gotten to know some very interesting auditors . . . . who’d of guessed! (Just kidding).

So, I want to take this opportunity at my one year anniversary to thank everyone who has contributed to the Quarterly in the past year—even when you didn’t have the time. I really appreciate it!! A big thank you, too, to everybody who contributes on a regular basis. I count on you and the readers count on you—you do a great job every quarter. Thank you to Joanne, Patricia, and Donna who are always super helpful. Thank you to the education committee who has been willing to contribute an article to the Quarterly every month. Thank you to my editorial board Jerry, Frank, and Jim. As a team we plan to continue doing what we can to make the Quarterly a valuable contribution to the profession of auditing.

And a special thank you to Judy Rosenberger who helps me get the Quarterly to the print shop every Quarter.

Thank you everybody and have a wonderful 2005!!!

Janis is a Senior Management Auditor for the Multnomah County Auditor's Office in Portland, Oregon and Editor of the Local Government Auditing Quarterly.
