Online Peer Review Training
What do you do if you want to – or need to – know more about ALGA peer reviews, but have been unable to attend the Peer Review Workshops at ALGA’s annual conferences? ALGA now offers a video based, on-line course that may be the answer.

The live Peer Review Workshops have been a well-attended part of ALGA’s annual conference for several years. The live workshops have been very successful in helping individuals prepare to be effective members of a peer review team. They have also helped individuals from audit shops that will have a ALGA peer review understand the process, and be better prepared for the review.

The on-line course is a self-study course that uses a video of the live workshop presentation at the May, 2004 conference. It also uses the same overheads and case studies used in the conference workshop, but the on-line course adds review questions for each section of the course and also adds a final exam (both of which are necessary to meet self-study CPE requirements.) But the biggest difference is that you can take this on-line course at your own pace, from your own computer.

The on-line course is hosted by LearnLive Technologies through their Society Insight e-learning program. LearnLive has the technology needed for an on-line video course, and is experienced in putting together e-courses and webcasts for state CPA societies and other organizations. The ALGA Education Committee worked with LearnLive and with the ALGA Peer Review Committee over the past year to develop this on-line course and to ensure that it provides a high quality learning experience.

The objectives of the on-line course are the same as those of the live ALGA Peer Review Workshops. Those objectives are to enable the participant to:

• Understand the purpose and nature of a ALGA peer review
• Know how to organize and conduct a ALGA peer review
• Understand how to interpret and apply Yellow Book standards
• Know how to prepare your audit shop for a peer review.

ALGA’s peer review course has been well-received at the ALGA annual conferences, and it is now available on your computer. The live presentation at the May 2004 conference has been adapted to a web-based video course through which you can earn 6 hours of CPE – and learn a lot about ALGA’s peer review program.
