We are proud to introduce a new and improved design and format for the local Government Auditing Quarterly, now affectionately known simply as LGAQ. We hope that this new name does not cause offense and we hope that you agree that the new look and feel represents an improvement from previous editions.
We are also pleased to be able to roll out some new features on the Local Government Auditing Quarterly website, www.governmentauditors.org. Now you may submit your audit abstracts online and participate in discussion forums in addition to what you could do in the past such as viewing articles and abstracts in the archives. Garry Blackmer of Portland has been working tirelessly to make the Quarterly more interactive using this new website.
This new design does not come without cost, however, and the communications committee is already working to solicit a few appropriate ads to cover the additional expenses associated with the design changes. We want these ads to be as unobtrusive as possible and to come from sponsors that will not impair our own independence as local government auditors.
In the near future, we would like to incorporate certain thematic elements into every edition, much like some of our sister publications such as Internal Auditor. For example, the Spring 2007 edition may focus upon the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley upon local government auditing and the Summer 2007 edition may feature articles about innovative data collection techniques.
We hope that this will achieve two things: 1) lend a bit of coherence to every issue and 2) answer the age-old question of, “What should I write about?” These writing prompts will be announced well in advance to allow authors time to create good and appropriate articles for publication. More information about writing articles is provided later in this Quarterly.
An added bonus to this new cover design is that it allows us to feature a different city or county seat of government every issue. We welcome your photos (as well as your articles and abstracts, of course) and our communications committee will select the best photo per issue that will represent the diverse locations, architectural styles, and sizes of the organizations in our membership.
