The Peer Review Committee is continuing its work in updating the Peer Review Program to accommodate the changes included in Government Auditing Standards (2003 Revision). Our highest priority in this process is revising the Quality Control Review Guide. The new Quality Control Review Guide will contain guidance, forms and checklists that will be used by peer review teams in completing quality control reviews.
Sub-committees are drafting revisions to the forms and checklists specifically addressing the technical aspects of the peer review (e.g., the General, Financial Audit, Attestation Engagement, and Performance Audit sections of Government Auditing Standards). The Peer Review Committee will make these draft documents available via the ALGA web site in early 2004, to aid members in developing and assessing their office policies and procedures in light of the new Government Auditing Standards.
Upon completion of the technical oriented forms and checklists, the Peer Review Committee will begin updating those sections of the Quality Control Review Guide governing the administrative aspects of the Peer Review Program (e.g., review agreements, independence statements, reporting, etc.). The completely updated Quality Control Review Guide will be distributed to the membership in mid-2004.
Comments regarding the Peer Review Program are always welcome and appreciated; however, now is the most opportune time for suggestions. Please feel free to contact any Peer Review Committee member if you have any thoughts/comments/suggestions regarding the program. Contact information is available at www.governmentauditors.org.
