ALGA's Awards Program Committee Announces the 2011 Knighton Awards and the Lifetime Achievement Award Programs

The Awards Program Committee encourages all organizational members to participate in the ALGA Award Programs.  Organizational members are audit shops from local governments, school districts, boards and authorities that conduct audits as a primary duty.  State audit shops, CPA firms, etc. are not eligible for awards.  Organizational members must hold an ALGA membership for all auditors (including the Chief Audit Executive) in the audit shop.

The Knighton Award recognizes the best performance audit reports of the preceding year.  The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented by the Board of Directors to nominees meeting criteria documenting their long-standing service to both ALGA and the local government auditing community.  All award recipients will be honored at ALGA's Annual Conference in Tempe, Arizona May 7 - 8, 2012.

Complete award program submissions should be submitted to Fay Kurkjy at ALGA Member Services (fkurkjy@nasact.org) between December 1, 2011 and January 23, 2012 at 5:00 pm, Eastern Time.  Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted.  The submitting office is solely responsible to ensure that Member Services receives their submission.

The Awards Program Committee is looking for seasoned audit professionals to volunteer as Knighton Award Program judges.  Volunteer judges must be willing to contribute time between January 23 and March 23, 2012 to read and evaluate performance audit reports against the established award criteria, and to deliberate with fellow award panelists to decide the award recipients.  The actual time required will vary depending on the number of audit submissions in each judge's assigned category.  It is a really a great experience!

If interested in volunteering, please review the 2011 Knighton Award Judge Responsibilities and Application Process on the Auditing Awards webpage on ALGA's website (www.governmentauditors.org), and send the requested information to Pam Weipert at weipertp@oakgov.com

Volunteers are not allowed to judge within their own shop size category or within any category where there could be a conflict of interest either in fact or appearance.  Volunteers are not allowed to judge in a category in which there is a submission from an organization to which the judge belongs (or belonged during the last three years).
