In November, the ALGA Board of Directors and the Committee Chairs had a productive meeting in Tempe, Arizona.  One of the highlights of this meeting was reviewing the results of the recently-completed ALGA Membership Satisfaction Survey.  I extend a big thank you to the Survey Committee and to the 503 participants who took the time to provide this feedback so ALGA can continue to meet the needs of its members.  Although many areas of the survey were discussed, two caught my attention: the most valuable benefit of ALGA membership, and the top two challenges audit shops face.

Greetings ALGA Friends!

Fall is here!  Time to take off the shade screens, spray down the patio furniture, plant a garden, and throw open the windows!  As an Arizona native, I've learned to live in harmony with the desert.  I keep oven mitts in my car and anything chocolate out of my car, I don't waste space in my closet for sweaters or umbrellas, and I watch most major sporting events inside a cool, covered stadium (burrow).  Given the national weather reports from July, many of you non-desert dwellers endured record heat as well; 134 degree heat index in Moorhead, Minnesota?  Crazy!  Nevertheless, the seasons have now changed, school is back in session, and our audits are well underway.

Greetings ALGA Friends!

I've got good news to share ... Beginning on January 1, 2011, ALGA will join 27 other government organizations (including AICAP, AGA, GAO, GFOA), as a member of the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council (GASAC).   "The GASAC is responsible for advising the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) on technical issues, project priorities, and other matters that affect standard setting for state and local governments' accounting and financial reporting.   Members of the GASAC are chosen from a broad cross section of the GASB's state and local government constituencies, including preparers, attestors, and users of financial information. They are selected based on their professional expertise and in consideration of the need to bring a wide variety of constituent views to the table," according to a GASB press release.
